 Albanian Pavilion at Venice Biennale of Art - Arsenale - City of Venice Exhibition in progress from 11 May to 24 November 2019 The 58th Biennale of Art will open to the public on 11 May 2019. But starting from a few days before the opening there will be the various openings and side events that always suddenly animate the Venetian artistic life. The title of the 58 edition of the Biennale d'Arte is May You Live In Interesting Times. 79 artists are invited to exhibit at the 58th Venice Biennale of Art, with a prevalence of women. Among them the 2 Italians Ludovica Carbotta and Lara Favaretto. The first will make a site-specific work in Forte Marghera, inside the building known as the Austrian Powder Mill. Can the possible and the imaginary coexist? At the center of Driant Zeneli's research is the redefinition of failure, utopia and dream. Through narrative and filmic performance, Driant Zeneli questions human obsession with his own limits, tracing alternative responses to the fragility of human beings and the planet earth. Challenge the physical and metaphysical relationship between man and space, matter and dream, gravity and control. Perhaps the cosmos is not so extraordinary (2019), it is a video installation sculpture that develops on a multidisciplinary project entitled Sotto un Surface there is only one other surface that began in 2015 at Metallurgjik, a dystopian industrial complex, in Elbasan, Albania . The project and the title derive from the pioneering science fiction novel Sulla strada by Epsilon Eridani (1983) by the Albanian physicist and writer Arion Hysenbegas. The installation is developed from a two-channel film set in the mines of Bulqize, a city in the north-east of the country, where, since 1918, chrome ore has been extracted. Chromium represents a key resource for the industrial development of Albania and clashes with the economic and political conflicts in the South of the world. The film tells of a group of adolescents from Bulqize discovering a cosmic capsule that follows the journey of chromium, from its extraction and processing to the factory until its export and exploitation worldwide. This journey into "geopolitical" space thus transforms this shady and dramatic industrial environment into an ambivalent space for collapse and take-off. Through a binary storytelling, a precise choreography of images and sounds, the factory operates not only as an industrial space or geopolitical hub, but as a performative visual force. The extraction of chromium turns into a hypnotic sculptural image and overall the factory therefore translates into a large, light and "parallel" installation, organically inserted into the walls of the Arsenale. In this productive and immersive space, Driant Zeneli intends to create a tension between an oppressive underground reality and a utopian space of possibility and liberation. Perhaps the cosmos is not so extraordinary it tries to physically reveal the ability of the ordinary, even in its darkest corners, to expand our existence. Hours: Gardens from 10.00 to 18.00.
