Event on December 31st 2019 and January 1st 2020

The New Year in Venice has been synonymous with Piazza San Marco for many years; here, in fact, there are thousands of people who choose Venice to celebrate the beginning of the new year.

If before it were the fireworks to attract rivers of people towards the San Marco Basin to enjoy the light show, later it passed to the appointment of the collective kiss that for some years monopolized the attention of tourists and residents present in Venice New Year's night.

In recent years there have been entertainment shows in Piazza San Marco with the participation of music bands, comedians and guests from the national television schedule who accompanied the festive crowd to the fateful countdown to celebrate the end and the beginning of the new year.

The LOVE program of the collective kiss has been abandoned for two years and we have returned to the past with the fireworks show that is not visible from Piazza San Marco but from Riva degli Schiavoni and the Arsenale.

But the beauty of Venice does not need organized programs, moreover all of Venice is celebrating New Year and many clubs, restaurants and bacari, remain open to the public until late at night offering concerts and shows.

But let's see the program for this New Year 2020.

Capodanno a VeneziaProgram:

• 23:59:50 - countdown to celebrate the New Year 2020

• 00.00 - fireworks show in Saint Mark's Basin

• 00.30 - feast in Saint Mark's Square and in the entire city until late night

To allow the exit of the many visitors who do not stay in the city as always the City of Venice and Trenitalia have scheduled special late-night trips that will connect Venice to Mestre, the cities of the district and Veneto.

What to do after the fireworks show on New Year's Eve in Venice

Venice is a modern and ancient city at the same time; but if you look for a discotheque or something similar you will be disappointed. But on New Year's Eve Venice is a widespread celebration; all the nightbars remain open until late at night and the Venetians are good locals, so on New Year's Eve you can have fun doing an itinerary of bars and historical places.

Security during the New Year in Venice

Venice is a fairly safe city and on New Year's Eve it is customary to see a large deployment of municipal police in all public places. Municipal forces are more a deterrent and a vigilance aimed at deterring inappropriate behavior with the decorum of the city of Venice.

On New Year's Eve in Venice the biggest problem could come from pickpockets that have been active in the city for some years due to the large turnout and the crowd that sometimes forms in certain routes due to the crowd.

So you never carry an open bag or an easily removable wallet from a back pocket. And you won't have to worry about anything else.
