Until
the 1300’s, Venice was the most important merchant port in
the whole of Europe. Ships set sail on a daily basis, towards many
places throughout the
Mediterranean
and Black Sea. The “Hotels” or lodging houses therefore
sprang up throughout the City to satisfy the growing needs of travellers
arriving on a daily basis. Amongst these, a guide dating back to
1495 cites the name of the Hotel Al Gallo. Here,
ambassadors and heads of government visiting the Republic of Venice,
found comfort and the necessary relaxation.
The Hotel Gallo that welcomes guests today has recently been renovated
and is now run by the Basile family. It’s furnished respecting
Venetian traditions; perfect for an unforgettable
stay and fully equipped with all necessary comforts.
The rooms are spacious and have a bathroom, television, hairdryer,
air-conditioning, telephone and minibar. Serena and Alessandro Basile
are at your disposition to give you all the necessary information
for visiting Venice.
From the Hotel Al Gallo, a short 10 minute walk through alleyways
and small squares, will take visitors to the Rialto Bridge
and St. Marks Square, as well as the Grassi Palace and
the fabulous Accademia Galleries.
