Scuola Grande di S. Teodoro

Even this Scuola seems to have ancient origins, in fact, it was founded in the 1258 when confraternity decided to settle in San Salvador church, obtaining, as the others Scuole, the permit to utilize a lateral nave and some rooms of the monastery.
San Teodoro, during its history has so many followers that finally in 1551 the Scuola received the permit to utilize the building that close the campo in front of the church. After one year the appellative "Grande" was given to the Scuola.
To have a building that was worthy of representing the importance of the San Teodoro, were bought some houses in front of the church and was approved the project by Simone Sorella.
At the beginning of seventeenth century was built the internal stairs and in the 1655 Giuseppe Sardi was charged to build the marble facade. Some experts said Longhena as well partecipated to the project even if it was never proved. Surely by Longhena are the balconies and the decorations of the lateral facade (1668 project).
In the nineteenth century the Scuola was robbed of its best works but the building remained almost original.
In the 1960 San Teodoro was reconstituted and nowadays offers the building for cultural events.
