CHURCH OF SAN CASSIANO

- Sestiere of San Polo. X sec. -

Just the Byzantinian-Venetian door-jambs and the bell tower are left of the old church dating back to the beginning of fifteenth century; all the had been removed with many restorations during centuries.
Interior has three naves and a groin vaulyt ceiling frescoed by C. Cedini (Tiepolo's School).
But the church is surely famous in Venetian itineraries for its important paintings dating back to sixteenth century: La visitazione and il Cristo nell'orto by Leandro Bassano, La resurrezione di Cristo con i santi Cecilia e Cassiano by Jacopo Tintoretto and, always by Robusti La crocefissione (1568), innovative work for its dramatic scene.
