CHURCH
OF SAN MAURIZIO -
Sestiere
of San Marco, X sec. -
San
Maurizio's church changed its aspect many times during centuries. It was
first built to create the initial group of Venetian church, then rebuilt
in the sixteenth century and finally demolished at the beginning of the
last but one century, leaving place to the actual building. Architecture
of this church is tipically neo-classical having Latin cross plan with
a dome in the center and some smaller outlying. Facade is embellished
with statues and bas-reliefs, instead internally there're paintings as
Campo San Maurizio (Saint Maurizio's square), kept in the sacresty
(ask gently to the priest!).
