S. NICOLA DA TOLENTINO - Sestiere of Santa Croce, XVI sec. -

Eighteenth-century-facade by Andrea Tirali, could be deceptive about fifteenth-century-foundation of Tolentini's church. In 1528 Saint Gaetano da Thiene arrived in Venice and immediately built a small Sunday School and later, with the alms thay managed to buy the adjoining piece of land where build the church and the Padri Teatini's monastery. Vincenzo scamozzi was the architact of the project that was realized between 1591 and 1602.
Interior keeps precious works of the Venetian Renaissance: Jacopo Palma il Giovane, Sante Peranda, Leandro Bassano, Pietro Damini. In the wide presbitery there're the altar by Baldassare Longhena and the baroque Monumento al Patriarca Morosini by F. Parodi.
